Doug Jones Marks 25th Anniversary of 9/11 with Day of Service in Birmingham

Birmingham, AL – Doug Jones joined more than 600 volunteers in Birmingham on Friday as part of 9/11 Day’s “UNIITE for Good”, marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks through service. At the event, organized by the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, Jones and volunteers from across the community packed more than 165,000 meals for families across Central Alabama.

In a video posted on social media after the event, Jones said:

“Twenty-five years ago today, America changed. We saw what happened in New York. Almost 3,000 lives were lost. We always must remember what happened on 9/11/2001.

But what we also saw was America coming together like I’ve never seen before or since in my lifetime. It was the strongest show of unity that Americans have had since World War II. We saw people of all races, religions and all political persuasions coming together to stand up for America, and we saw allies across the world standing with us.

There are a lot of lessons to be learned from 9/11, but the thing that I take back most is how patriotic Americans can be for each other, for the world to see. We need to find that again.

This is a day of remembrance. It’s a day of service. Let’s remember the lives that were lost, their lives and their gifts to humanity. And let’s come together.”
