Tuscaloosa, AL – On Monday, October 19, Doug Jones is heading back to his alma mater, the University of Alabama, for a town hall on the last day to register to vote in the November 3 election. For a lot of the students there, this will be their first time voting.
The town hall is hosted by the Kappa Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the Theta Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, and the University of Alabama College Democrats, and starts at 5:30 PM CDT in North Lawn Hall, Room 1000. This will be Jones’ 20th stop on his statewide Town Hall Tour since July 1st.
“The students at the University of Alabama right now are deciding whether their future is here in Alabama,” Jones said. “This election is about whether we prioritize good-paying jobs, affordable housing, and opportunities for young people to start a family and build a life.”
In 2022, only 15% of Alabamians ages 18 to 29 voted. Young voters were a big part of Jones’ victory in the 2017 Senate race, and they could be the key again in this governor’s race.
“This is a change election, and the first step is making sure folks are registered,” Jones said. “If you’re not registered, Monday is your last chance. Your future in this state is on the ballot, so get registered and get out to vote on November 3.”
