Anniston, AL – At a veterans town hall in Anniston Tuesday night, Doug Jones put his record and Tommy Tuberville’s side by side, playing two videos that showed the difference between promising veterans you’ll fight for them and actually getting it done.

The first video showed Jones leading the fight in the Senate to repeal the Military Widow’s Tax, which for decades denied surviving military spouses the full benefits their families had earned. Jones delivered.

“Every time I get asked what’s the one thing that you are most proud of that you did in the Senate, it was getting rid of the Military Widow’s Tax,” Jones said Tuesday. “That was what public service is supposed to be about, folks. That’s what public service is about.”

The second video showed Tuberville’s record on veterans issues. Starting with his unfulfilled promise to donate “every dime” of his Senate salary to veterans, the video documented his vote against the PACT Act, which expanded health care and disability benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The bill passed the Senate 86-11 in August 2022; Tuberville voted no on both the procedural vote and final passage.

The video also highlighted Tuberville’s months-long blockade of military promotions in 2023, a stand that drew bipartisan criticism, including from the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who said, “Senator Tuberville, this is doing great damage to our military. I don’t say that lightly. I’ve been trying to work with you for nine months.”

“Talk is cheap. But somebody has got to walk the walk,” Jones said. “And for the last five and a half years, this guy has not done it.”
