Dr. Will Boyd officially entered the 2026 Alabama gubernatorial race today, filing his paperwork and qualifying fees with the Secretary of State as required by state law.

“As I have been crisscrossing the State for the past six months, a wide range of voters have expressed their support for my campaign,” Boyd said. “That’s why I am committed to running a competitive race in the Democratic primary.”

Boyd also called on his Democratic opponents to join him in a series of debates across Alabama, saying voters deserve a clear and open comparison of ideas.

“Voters deserve to compare our individual visions for the state in a way that makes our differences clear,” Boyd said. “Nothing will do that better than a series of townhall style debates.”

Boyd lives in Hoover with his wife, Vida, and their three children. Trained as an engineer, he has worked as a manufacturing executive and college professor, and has served in higher education leadership, elected office, and civic roles.

He has written three books and currently serves as Pastor of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Florence. Boyd is also Presiding Bishop of Zion Ministries and a Patriarch of the Holy Catholic Church International, with ministry work in Alabama and abroad.

In addition, Boyd has served on the Health Care Authority Board for Lauderdale County and the City of Florence. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., where he has held several leadership posts.

In outlining his priorities, Boyd pointed to jobs, healthcare, and major infrastructure needs.

“Alabamians want our State to have a thriving economy so they can pay their bills and take care of their families,” Boyd said. “They want affordable, accessible healthcare. And they want to see our communities strengthened by innovations such as a statewide broadband system, high-speed rail, and an overhaul of the prison and parole systems. If I am elected, I will be pursuing these goals for all Alabamians.”
