FarmPAC adds Wahl, Sorrell, Zeigler to Nov. 3 Endorsements

TL;DR: Alabama FarmPAC has completed its endorsements for the Nov. 3 general election, adding John Wahl for Lieutenant Governor, Andrew Sorrell for State Auditor and Jim Zeigler for Public Service Commission, Place 2. The farm group is also backing Tommy Tuberville for Governor, Barry Moore for U.S. Senate and candidates in six U.S. House races.

The Alabama Farmers Federation’s political arm has finalized its endorsements for the Nov. 3 general election, adding three more candidates to a broad slate of State and federal races.

Alabama FarmPAC has endorsed John Wahl for Lieutenant Governor, Andrew Sorrell for State Auditor and Jim Zeigler for Place 2 on the Alabama Public Service Commission.

The three endorsements complete FarmPAC’s voter guide for major Statewide, federal, judicial and State Board of Education races.

FarmPAC is the political action committee of the Alabama Farmers Federation. The group represents farmers and rural interests across the State and has long been active in Alabama elections.

Federation President Jimmy Parnell said Wahl, Sorrell and Zeigler met with FarmPAC executive trustees and county leaders across Alabama during the spring and summer.

“We are pleased to support these public servants,” Parnell said in the FarmPAC announcement. “All three have invested time in getting to know our members and understanding the challenges and opportunities facing farmers, timber owners and rural families. We look forward to working with them to move Alabama forward.”

The additions round out a FarmPAC ticket that includes candidates for Governor, U.S. Senate, six congressional districts, Statewide constitutional offices, the PSC and appellate courts.

FarmPAC’s major-office endorsements are:

  • Governor: Tommy Tuberville
  • Lieutenant Governor: John Wahl
  • Attorney General: Katherine Robertson
  • Secretary of State: Caroleene Dobson
  • State Treasurer: Young Boozer
  • State Auditor: Andrew Sorrell
  • Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries: Corey Hill
  • Public Service Commission, Place 1: Matt Gentry
  • Public Service Commission, Place 2: Jim Zeigler
  • Alabama Supreme Court, Place 7: Brad Mendheim
  • Alabama Supreme Court, Place 8: Greg Shaw
  • Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, Place 4: Benjamin Bowden
  • Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, Place 5: Matt Fridy
  • Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 4: Mary Windom
  • Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 5: Riggs Walker

  • U.S. House, District 2: Rhett Marques
  • U.S. House, District 3: Mike Rogers
  • U.S. House, District 4: Robert Aderholt
  • U.S. House, District 5: Dale Strong
  • U.S. House, District 6: Gary Palmer
  • State Board of Education, District 2: Tracie West
  • State Board of Education, District 4: Yvette Richardson
  • State Board of Education, District 8: Emily Jones

FarmPAC said its full list, including endorsements in Alabama House and Senate races, will be published in the November issue of Neighbors magazine and made available through the Alabama Farmers Federation website.

Parnell also used the announcement to raise concerns about voter turnout after Alabama’s primary, runoff and special elections.

“Low voter turnout in the primaries, runoffs and special election is concerning,” Parnell said. “Voter apathy, particularly among conservatives, has made Alabama a target for far-left, national groups seeking to gain a foothold in the southern U.S. Challenging economic times and media reports have motivated liberal voters while many conservatives have stayed home. I’m convinced the majority of Alabama voters support family values, smaller government, lower taxes and less regulation, but we have to make our voices heard Nov. 3. The future of our State and nation depends on it.”

With the addition of Wahl, Sorrell and Zeigler, FarmPAC has now put its name and influence behind candidates across nearly every major level of Alabama’s Nov. 3 ballot, from the U.S. Senate and Governor’s office to the State courts, PSC and State Board of Education.
