Figures and Ezell Introduce Bipartisan ‘Bridge Investment and Modernization Act’
I-10 Bayway Bridge could be early benefactor of bill

U.S. Representatives Shomari C. Figures (D-AL2) and Mike Ezell (R-MS4) have unveiled the Bridge Investment and Modernization Act, a bipartisan bill designed to reform the existing 2021 Bridge Infrastructure Program. The legislation will extend and boost funding for U.S. bridge infrastructure through 2031 .
The measure will streamline federal funding processes for major bridge projects nationwide. Among the early beneficiaries could be the Interstate 10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project—an essential link between Alabama and Mississippi.
“This bill is a step in the right direction toward real advancements in projects like the I-10 Bridge and Bayway Project in my hometown of Mobile, Alabama,” said Rep. Figures. “This will help communities be better connected by working to ensure the completion of infrastructure projects all across America.”
Rep. Ezell added: “Improving our infrastructure means safer travel, stronger communities, and a better economy. The I-10 Bridge and Bayway Project is vital to the Gulf Coast, and this bipartisan bill helps make sure it gets done. I’m proud to work with Rep. Figures to deliver the improvements Alabama, Mississippi, and the rest of the country need.”
In addition to proposing increased funding, the bill was submitted via the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Portal, seeking inclusion in the next reauthorization package expected later this year or early next.
