Food safety is an issue that impacts every aspect of our lives, from our national economy to our kitchen table and the health of our families. We must be able to have confidence that the food we buy in our local grocery stores is safe. In order to ensure that, we must have a Commissioner of Agriculture who understands the importance of food safety from the farm to the table to ensure that our food supply is safe.

Our state's Department of Agriculture is responsible for overseeing the safety of the food supply from ensuring the health of the livestock and poultry on our farms to strengthening the safe food supply chain. Because I am a working farmer and the owner of a grocery store, I am uniquely qualified to focus on the aspects of our food supply chain that are the most vulnerable, putting our economy's health and the health of our families at risk.

By focusing on promoting Alabama products over foods imported from other countries, we can help ensure that the dinners we put on our tables are safe. By working with the grocers that I have worked with across the state, we can build initiatives to encourage our state's grocers to highlight Alabama's products and to provide promotions and preferential placement of those items to make them more appealing to our state's shoppers.

Food safety will be one of my top priorities because nothing is more important than ensuring that Alabama's parents can feed their children with confidence.
