George Williams Elected Chairman of Alabama Minority GOP
“It’s time to move past the old political assumptions and focus on the issues that matter—public safety, education, jobs, and opportunity.”—George Williams

George Williams has been elected Chairman of the Alabama Minority GOP following a vote at group’s recent Statewide meeting. A decorated Vietnam veteran, retired federal agent, and longtime Republican leader, Williams brings decades of experience and public service to the role.
Williams is no stranger to Alabama politics. He made history as the first African-American to serve as Senior Vice Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party—the second-highest office within the state party—and has spent years in various leadership positions at both the county and state levels. He currently serves on the Alabama Republican State Executive Committee and the Baldwin County Republican Executive Committee, and has long headed the Minority GOP’s South Alabama chapter.
In 2024, he represented Alabama’s Second Congressional District as an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention. He’s also familiar to many in the Mobile area as the host of The George Williams Show on FM Talk 106.5, where he discusses politics and public policy from a conservative viewpoint.
In a statement following his election, Williams said he’s ready to expand the party’s reach into communities that have often been ignored by political leadership.
“I’m honored to take on this role and look forward to continuing our mission of outreach and engagement across every corner of the state,” Williams said. “The Minority GOP has always been about bringing real conservative solutions to communities that are too often overlooked or taken for granted. It’s time to move past the old political assumptions and focus on the issues that matter—public safety, education, jobs, and opportunity.”
Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl praised Williams as a proven leader with the values and experience needed to help guide the party’s outreach efforts.
“George Williams is a man of integrity with exactly the kind of experience we need to help lead the State GOP—from his military service to his leadership in law enforcement,” Wahl said. “He’s a trusted voice for conservative values, and I’m excited to work alongside him as we grow the Minority GOP’s presence across Alabama.”
Wahl said the State party remains focused on building relationships in communities across the state, especially among voters who may not have traditionally felt represented by Republicans.
“The Alabama Republican Party is committed to building bridges with minority communities at every level,” he said. “We want every voter to know the Republican Party is ready to defend their rights, their freedoms, and their values.”
“The national Democrat Party has left behind many of the principles that are important to minority families—faith in God, strong families, and traditional education without sexual agendas. We’re here to let them know: You have a home in the Republican Party.”
Wahl also emphasized that party affiliation should not be determined by race or background.
“It’s time to break the stereotype that minorities can’t be Republicans. That’s simply not true—and more and more minority voters are seeing that. We’re proud to be a party that welcomes everyone. We believe in liberty, opportunity for all, and the American dream. Together, we’re building a brighter future for people of all backgrounds.”
