Governor Kay Ivey has announced that over $3.7 million in state funds is heading to cities and counties for 12 long-overdue road projects around Alabama. This marks the second round of grants this year under the Alabama Department of Transportation’s Annual Grant Program, which was created by the Rebuild Alabama Act.

That act, passed by the state legislature in 2019 and signed by Gov. Ivey, sets aside at least $10 million each year from gas tax revenue to help local road and bridge repairs. More funding rounds are expected later in the year.

“Rebuild Alabama is doing exactly what we promised – fixing roads and bridges in every corner of our state,” Gov. Ivey said. “With every round of funding, we’re seeing real improvements along our busiest highways and the local roads Alabamians rely on every day. This is a smart, long‑term investment at work, and Alabama is better for it.”

Local governments didn’t just sit back—they matched the funding with their own $3.5 million-plus contributions. And, each of the projects must get rolling within a year, to make sure the work actually happens.

Since the Rebuild Alabama Act began, ALDOT has handed out more than $66 million in state funds for local road projects.
