Governor Ivey Announces $3.7 Million in ALDOT Grants

Grants will help rebuild roads and bridges under the Rebuild Alabama Act

Governor Ivey Announces $3.7 Million in ALDOT Grants

On Friday, Governor Kay Ivey announced that over $3.7 million in state funding will go to 13 road projects in communities all across Alabama. This marks the final round of grants this year under ALDOT’s Annual Grant Program, which was established by the Rebuild Alabama Act.

These grants are meant to help cities and counties upgrade and repair roads and bridges—part of Ivey’s push to strengthen Alabama’s infrastructure. The Rebuild Alabama Act, passed by the Legislature and signed into law in 2019, requires that ALDOT set aside at least $10 million a year from gas tax revenue to support local projects.

In her announcement, Governor Ivey said,

“Supporting all Alabama citizens for generations to come has always been my mission. From our students’ education to the state’s infrastructure, Alabama continues to make strides for future generations of Alabamians. … I am proud to say that Alabama is keeping our commitment to safer, stronger and more connected communities.”

The funding awarded under this round is being matched by local contributions. In total, cities and counties will chip in more than $2.4 million toward these 13 projects. All work must begin within one year of the awards.

Since the Rebuild Alabama Act took effect, ALDOT’s Annual Grant Program alone has distributed over $70 million in state funds to local projects. Because of it, more than 500 roads and bridges in all 67 counties have seen improvements.

Among the awarded projects are:

  • In Bullock County (Union Springs): $250,000 to resurface Hardaway Avenue, Levy Avenue, and Mimosa Apartment Road
  • In Chambers County (Valley): $350,000 in state funds (plus about $1.49 million local) to resurface CR-379 (the Fairfax Bypass)
  • Cullman (Cullman County): $350,000 to reclaim Graham Street SW
  • Sanford (Covington County): $350,000 (plus about $386,295 local) to pave Snuffy Road
  • Bridgeport (Jackson County): $350,000 to resurface 11 city streets
  • Eva (Morgan County): $300,000 (plus $50,000 local) for resurfacing and repairs
