Governor Ivy proclaims August 29 as College Colors Day
College football season is here!
Governor Kay Ivey has proclaimed August 29, 2025 as College Colors Day in Alabama!
The proclamation says:
WHEREAS, College Colors Day seeks to celebrate and promote the traditions and spirit that make the university experience great by encouraging faculty, staff, students, alumui and fans to wear apparel of their favorite university throughout the day of August 29, 2025; and
WHEREAS, 14 public colleges and universities are located in Alabama, providing exceptional educational opportunities to improve the lives of thousands of Alabamians every year, and WHEREAS, for more than 190 years, Alabama's universities have been educating, serving and bettering the lives of citizens in the state of Alabama; and
WHEREAS, the universities of the state of Alabama have a long history of collaboration and, together, contribute over $27 billion to Alabama's economy; and
WHEREAS, academic and athletic achievement in the state of Alabama provide significant educational opportunities and scholarships to thousands of young men and women; and
WHEREAS, the graduates and friends of Alabama's universities are eager to celebrate the many achievements in research, education and athletics; and
WHEREAS, the public universities of Alabama bring great quality of life, generate economic opportunity and make dreams a reality; and
WHEREAS, College Colors Day promotes higher education in Alabama through increased public awareness and the celebration of the tremendous economic, cultural and social impact of the universities in our state;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim August 29, 2025, as College Colors Day in the state of Alabama and encourage all supporters of our 14 public colleges and universities to proudly display their colors on this day as a reminder of this year's theme that "Universities Turn Dreams into Reality."
Football season opens in Alabama on the 28th, with the Alabama State vs UAB game in Birmingham. Then, Auburn opens its 2025 football season on the 29th against Baylor. Alabama plays Florida State on the 3oth, and all our other great schools kicking off their seasons that weekend, too.
No matter which team you root for, it’s time to wear your colors and celebrate!
