Governor Kay Ivey Honors Alabama Exporters with 2025 Trade Excellence Awards
Ivey also honored Mercedes-Benz, proclaimed May “World Trade Month” in Alabama

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey recognized five Alabama companies for their international achievements at the 2025 Governor’s Trade Excellence Awards ceremony held Wednesday, May 7 at the State Capitol. The awards celebrate businesses that have significantly contributed to Alabama's economy and expanded the global presence of the "Made in Alabama" brand.
In her remarks, Governor Ivey emphasized the importance of global trade to the state's economic growth. "These exporters are proving that Alabama businesses can compete — and win — on the global stage," Ivey said. "As they grow their international presence, they’re also creating jobs and opportunity here at home. Their success sends a powerful message: Alabama is open for business and ready to lead."
The 2025 award recipients include:
- Central Steel Service (Pelham): A distributor of high-strength, corrosion-resistant steels used in infrastructure projects worldwide, exporting to countries such as Canada, Mexico, and South Korea.
- SEA Wire and Cable (Huntsville): A supplier of military and aerospace wire and cable products, serving major defense contractors and exporting to over a dozen countries.
- Silver Ships (Theodore): A manufacturer of aluminum workboats for military and commercial clients, with vessels delivered to nations including Montenegro and the Philippines.
- Special Shapes Refractory Co. (Bessemer): A producer of custom-engineered refractory shapes for industries like steel and petrochemicals, exporting to markets such as Argentina and India.
- System Studies & Simulation Inc. (S³) (Huntsville): A provider of technical and training services to the U.S. military and allied nations, operating in over 26 global locations including Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom.
Governor Ivey also honored Mercedes-Benz for its role in enhancing Alabama’s global business reputation through robust export activity. She then officially proclaimed May as “World Trade Month” in Alabama.
The ceremony included a special recognition for Mike Lee of Page & Jones, acknowledging his decades of leadership in international logistics. Christina Stimpson, Chief Officer of Global Business for the Alabama Department of Commerce, praised Lee as "a tireless advocate for trade, for Alabama and for the people and partnerships that keep commerce moving forward."
Alabama's export performance has been strong, with state exports totaling $26.8 billion in 2024, the second-highest annual tally on record. Alabama-made products reached 201 countries, driven by demand for motor vehicles and other manufactured goods.
The Alabama Department of Commerce’s Global Business Office continues to support state businesses in expanding their international reach, offering training, market insights, and connections through initiatives like Export Alabama.
