Hall of Fame Coach Kenneth Cox, candidate for Hoover City Council Place 2, launched his “Run With Kenneth” initiative early Wednesday morning. The event, held at the Hoover Met, marked a symbolic campaign push in the final days before the August 26 municipal election.

Around 6:30 a.m., Cox hit the road with a group of former student-athletes he coached during his acclaimed career at Birmingham-Southern College. Over the course of the day, he planned to run more than 15 miles across Hoover.

“This isn’t just about the miles,” Cox said before setting off. “It’s about the momentum my campaign has going into Election Day. I want to show the people of Hoover that I’m willing to put in the work and go the distance for them, just like I did for my students and athletes over the years.”

The run served as both a fundraising event and a reflection of Cox’s campaign promise—to be the “hardest working member of the Hoover City Council.” It captured his values of perseverance, leadership, and community service.

Cox has a distinguished track record. He spent 16 years as Head Coach of cross country and track and field at Birmingham-Southern College, where his teams earned seven NCAA Division III titles. He later earned induction into the B-SC Sports Hall of Fame and served roles such as President of the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association.

Beyond athletics, Cox serves on several local boards. He chairs Leadership Hoover and holds board positions with the Hoover Parks & Recreation Foundation and the Downtown Redevelopment Authority. He was also Senior Games Manager for the World Police & Fire Games held this year in Birmingham.

Additionally, longtime Councilman Sam Swiney has endorsed Cox for Place 2, calling him “loyal, trustworthy and honorable.” Swiney said, “He’s a huge asset to our city and is invested heavily.” Cox responded, “I’m honored by his endorsement. I intend to earn every vote I receive.”

The “Run With Kenneth” journey continued at multiple city spots today. Supporters were expected to join him along the route.
