Hampton Harris Enters Race for Alabama’s 2nd District
Montgomery attorney and small business owner launches a grassroots bid for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District
Hampton Harris, a Republican attorney and small business owner from Montgomery, has announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, launching a campaign focused on grassroots organizing and voter turnout.
Harris said his campaign will rely on disciplined outreach and direct voter contact across the District, with an emphasis on reaching communities often missed in modern campaigns.
“This District is winnable when we do the work,” Harris said. “I’ve run in this District before. I know the District and I know what it is going to take to win.”
Harris argued that success in the District will depend on more than messaging and advertising. He said Republican voters must be active participants in the campaign, not just on Election Day.
“Winning here takes more than a message, it takes a commitment from the people to show up,” Harris said. “Not just to vote themselves, but to make sure their friends, family, neighbors, and communities show up as well. That is how we take back this seat.”
According to Harris, that effort will include door-to-door outreach, engagement in rural areas, and consistent presence at churches, civic groups, and town halls, paired with traditional television, mail, and voter contact strategies.
“That means knocking doors, building relationships in rural communities, showing up at churches, civic clubs, and town halls, and pairing that groundwork with smart television, mail, and voter contact efforts,” he said.
Harris also framed the race as part of the broader fight for control of the U.S. House of Representatives, warning that the balance of power in Congress could affect the remainder of President Donald Trump’s term.
“If Democrats regain control of the House, President Trump will spend the rest of his term fighting impeachment and legal warfare instead of delivering policies that lower the cost of living and help American families,” Harris said. “Alabama’s Second District was taken as part of that strategy, and taking it back will require every Republican to show up and vote. No one can sit this out. Every single vote will matter, and we must turn frustration into action and reclaim this District.”
While acknowledging the role of television and digital media, Harris said personal voter engagement remains critical.
“Campaigns today rely heavily on television and media, which are necessary,” Harris said. “But the power of grassroots campaigning and good old-fashioned worn boot leather should never be underestimated.”
Raised in Montgomery, Harris was homeschooled alongside his siblings and worked on his family’s farm before earning degrees in economics and law. He currently owns and operates a small real estate brokerage based in the District. Harris is the grandson of a Vietnam Marine veteran and a retired Air Force colonel and is also a military spouse.
Harris said his campaign will center on conservative values, economic relief for working families and small businesses, and strong support for veterans and the military.
“This campaign is about putting in the effort and taking this District back,” Harris said. “Every vote matters here, and if Republicans show up together, Alabama’s Second District can and will be reclaimed.”
