Harris Praises Trump’s Pick of Warsh for Federal Reserve
Alabama GOP candidate Hampton Harris says Kevin Warsh’s nomination as Fed chair brings needed experience, steady leadership amid inflation concerns
Hampton Harris, Republican nominee for Alabama’s Second Congressional District, today lauded President Donald Trump’s nomination of Kevin Warsh to lead the Federal Reserve.
In a campaign statement, Harris said Warsh’s mix of public- and private-sector experience will bring steady leadership to the nation’s central bank at a time when many Alabama families are still feeling the effects of inflation and high interest costs.
“President Trump has made an outstanding choice in Kevin Warsh,” Harris said. “At a time when Alabama families are still feeling the squeeze of inflation and high interest rates, we need steady, experienced leadership at the Federal Reserve. Kevin Warsh is exactly the right person for this critical moment.”
President Trump announced his selection of Warsh as the next Federal Reserve Chair on January 30, 2026. If confirmed by the Senate, Warsh would succeed current Chair Jerome Powell, whose term ends in May. Trump praised Warsh as one of the strongest candidates for the role and a leader with deep experience in financial markets and central banking.
Warsh, 55, served on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors from 2006 to 2011 — a period that included the global financial crisis — and was the Fed’s principal liaison to Wall Street during those turbulent years. He was also the Fed’s representative to the Group of Twenty (G-20), giving him experience in global economic coordination.
Before his time on the Fed, Warsh built a career in mergers and acquisitions at Morgan Stanley and later served in key economic policy roles in the George W. Bush White House.
In endorsing Warsh’s credentials, Harris highlighted his broad background and commitment to sound judgment and stability.
“Kevin Warsh has been called ‘uniquely prepared — in judgment, experience, and temperament — to serve our country at this critical time,’” Harris continued. “That’s exactly what Alabama families need: someone who will bring stability and sound homari judgment to our nation’s monetary policy.”
Harris added that he looks forward to working with the nominee to ensure Federal Reserve policies support growth and opportunity for working families across Alabama’s Second District.
As the only Republican who qualified to run in AL-2, Harris is the presumptive nominee. He will likely face incumbent Democrat Shomari Figures in the November general election.
A lifelong Alabamian, military spouse, and community leader, Hampton Harris emphasizes conservative principles and economic relief for working families in his campaign.
