Health Freedom Alabama Issues CTA for Tuberville to Back HB12
Group calls on Sen. Tommy Tuberville to support HB12, the Right to Refuse Act, now pending in the Alabama Legislature
A grassroots advocacy group is calling on U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville to publicly support Alabama House Bill 12 (HB12), the Right to Refuse Act, as the measure awaits action in Montgomery.
Health Freedom Alabama issued a Statewide Call To Action (CTA) this week, urging supporters to contact Tuberville’s Montgomery office and ask him to back the bill.
“Tuberville's support would create momentum and increase pressure in the legislature to move HB12 forward,” the group wrote in its message to members.
The organization asked supporters to call the Senator’s Montgomery office at (334) 523-7424 and deliver the following message:
“Hello, this is ___. As an Alabama voter, I would like to get a message to Senator Tuberville please. I’m asking him to publicly come out in support of Alabama bill HB12, the Right to Refuse Act. This matters to me a great deal and we deserve to know where he stands on this very important bill.
“HB12, the Right to Refuse Act is pending in the AL legislature. This bill protects personal liberty and our ability to live without mandates or medical coercion. We must get protections in state law that prohibit mandates from happening again. As someone who is running for AL Governor, seeing your support of this legislation is very important to me. Please fully and openly support HB12 and do what you can to influence its passage. Thank you.”
Supporters were also encouraged to email Tuberville’s gubernatorial campaign at info@coachforgovernor.com and to forward the message to friends “so we can amplify this effort.”
“We can't do this without you,” the CTA concluded.
HB12, titled the “Alabama Conscientious Right to Refuse Act,” would prohibit certain forms of discrimination based on a person’s refusal to receive vaccines, biologics, RNA or DNA-based products, certain drugs, or to wear facial coverings for reasons of conscience, including religious belief.
As introduced in the Alabama Legislature for the 2026 Regular Session, the bill would:
- Bar employers from discriminating in hiring, promotion, or job terms based on immunization status or refusal.
- Prevent public accommodations from denying goods or services on that basis.
- Prohibit hospitals and health insurers from withholding care or coverage due to such refusals, with limited exceptions for surgical settings.
- Forbid occupational licensing boards from denying or revoking a license because of immunization status.
The bill would also create a private right of action, allowing individuals to seek injunctive relief in court, and would authorize the Alabama Attorney General to enforce the law. If enacted, it would take effect June 1, 2026.
Supporters argue the measure would safeguard personal liberty and prevent future mandates. Critics in past debates over similar legislation have raised concerns about public health policy and conflicts with federal rules.
Health Freedom Alabama now hopes Tuberville’s public endorsement could influence the debate.
With HB12 currently awaiting action in the Alabama House Judiciary Committee, the group’s message is clear: make the call, send the email, and press for a public stance from Senator and candidate for Governor Tuberville.
Health Freedom Alabama was formed during the 2021 legislative session, when a grassroots coalition pushed to ban vaccine passports in Alabama. That effort led to passage of SB267, which was signed into law on May 24, 2021.
Since then, the group has focused on protecting parental rights and medical choice in Alabama. HFA works to educate and equip citizens while partnering with Dtate lawmakers to defend what it calls fundamental health freedoms. Citing the State motto, “We Dare Defend Our Rights,” the organization says it remains active in the legislative process and committed to guarding against government-mandated medical policies.
