House Majority Leader Paul Lee Appoints Rep. James Lomax Majority Whip
Rep. Chip Brown to Continue serving as Caucus Vice Chairman
From the Alabama House Republican Caucus
House Majority Leader Paul Lee (R-Dothan) announced on Wednesday that he has appointed Rep. James Lomax (R-Huntsville) to serve as majority whip, marking one of his first key actions as majority leader.
Rep. Chip Brown (R-Hollingers Isalnd) will continue serving as vice chairman of the House Republican Caucus, a post he has was elected to hold by his fellow House Republican Caucus members in 2024.
The role of majority whip is to monitor overall caucus support for upcoming legislation while serving as a conduit between leadership and all 76 Republican members. Additionally, the majority whip plays a key role in organizing the logistics and strategy behind passing caucus priority legislation.
“Rep. Lomax has quickly established himself as one of the most effective members of the Alabama House of Representatives and has built a reputation as someone you can count on to get the job done,” Lee said. “I have a tremendous amount of faith in his abilities and will lean on him heavily as we work to support our Republican members in passing key conservative legislation and dominating up and down the ballot.
Rep. Brown has been a strong vice chairman since being elected by the caucus in 2024, and I am grateful to have him continue serving in this important role. I believe the House GOP Caucus now has a capable leadership team in place, and we are excited to get to work.”
First elected in 2022, Lomax has been a driving force behind shaping and implementing Republican priorities through his work on the Caucus Platform Committee. He has a solid record of fighting for conservative principles and most recently passed legislation through the House banning foreign entities from influencing Alabama’s elections.
“I am honored by the trust Majority Leader Lee and members of the Republican Caucus have placed in me to serve as Majority Whip,” Lomax said. “The role of Majority Whip is about service: listening to our members, delivering results for our constituents, and delivering strong conservative wins for Alabama. Alabamians expect results, not noise. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to deliver those results for the people of Alabama, such as continuing to cut taxes, supporting law enforcement, investing in education, and building a robust economy that creates opportunity in every corner of our great state.”
Lomax is a lifelong resident of Huntsville, Alabama, where he and his wife, Elizabeth, are proudly raising their two children. He works in the commercial real estate industry and has overseen two million square feet of development across North Alabama.
First elected in 2018, Brown represents House District 105 and serves as chairman of the Committee on Ports, Waterways and Intermodal Transit. He also holds positions on the Insurance Committee, where he serves as a subcommittee chairman, Economic Development and Tourism Committee, and Mobile Local Legislation Committee.
Brown served in the Alabama Army National Guard and worked as a contractor, deploying to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
“I am honored to continue serving the House GOP Caucus as its vice chairman,” Brown said. “Our caucus has achieved a great deal over the last three years, and I fully believe that Leader Lee is the right man to elevate our members, strengthen our majority, and advance a conservative agenda that delivers real results for the people of Alabama.”
