U.S. Representative Barry Moore (R-AL-1), along with U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) and 16 other members of the Sharia-Free America Caucus, recently laid out the case against Sharia Law - a culture of violence and domination incompatible with the U.S. Constitution and American values.

In his remarks, Rep, Moore said:

"Sharia law targets women, religious minorities and political dissenters. The principles of Sharia law are fundamentally incompatible with our Constitution's rights and our legal protections under the law. Due process and freedom of speech. That's what Sharia law is against. No foreign or religious legal code should ever influence American courts or create a parallel system of justice. Sharia law must not be allowed to override the Constitution. America doesn't bend itself to radical ideologies. And we must always protect liberty and the United States of America."

The Sharia-Free America Caucus is a new congressional group launched in December 2025 by Republican U.S. Representatives Keith Self (R-TX-03) and Chip Roy (R-TX-21) to oppose the influence of Sharia law in the United States. The founders argue that Sharia is incompatible with the U.S. Constitution and “Western values,” and could undermine American freedom and legal norms if allowed to gain a foothold.

In a statement at the group’s launch, caucus leaders said their mission is to defend constitutional principles and individual liberties. Rep. Self stated that Sharia “stands in direct opposition to our country,” and Rep. Roy warned it poses “a direct threat to our Constitution and Western values.”

The group has rapidly grown since its launch and, as of late January 2026, includes 26 Republican members from roughly 17 States. Among those who have joined are House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, who said Sharia was “completely incompatible with the American way of life,” and other lawmakers who tie their opposition to concerns over immigration policy and national identity.

Supporters of the caucus promote legislative initiatives such as the No Sharia Act and the Preserving a Sharia-Free America Act, which aim to bar enforcement of Sharia principles in U.S. courts and prevent entry of foreign nationals they believe adhere to Sharia.
