In the Face of Darkness, We Stand
“We are called to defend our children, our families, and our communities with courage that will not bend”—Stephanie Durnin

Guest Opinion by Stephanie Durnin
Some time has now passed since the shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk, and yet the grief remains heavy.
Like many of you, my heart has been deeply hurt by this tragedy. As I've struggled to put words to my grief, one truth becomes clear: Charlie Kirk was deliberately assassinated for speaking truth and for being a voice that the Left could not control.
His death forces us to ask: what is the real cost of truth in America today?
The price is no longer shadow bans, canceled events, or angry mobs. For some, it has meant their very lives. Do you feel the weight of this? If truth carries such a cost, are we ready to bear it?
Charlie wasn't for sale. He refused to compromise, refused to be silenced, and he paid the ultimate price. He knew that defending truth was never safe, but he also knew it was always worth it.
Charlie was a bold defender of health freedom, standing firmly against mandates, government overreach, and the erosion of personal choice. He believed that free people should never be forced into medical decisions by bureaucrats or politicians, and he used his platform to amplify those convictions.
And more importantly, Charlie knew his Creator. He understood that politics may shape a nation for a time, but only Jesus Christ saves souls for eternity. He boldly called people to repentance, faith, and salvation. His life— and his death-are a spiritual reminder of what matters most.
His example also teaches us that surrender is not an option. If the goal of fear is to break us, then the answer must be courage. This is not the time to shrink back. This is the time to stand taller, speak louder, and refuse to be cowed into submission.
We are called to defend our children, our families, and our communities with courage that will not bend.
When the weight feels overwhelming, we look to Scripture for strength, because the battle is not just political—it is spiritual. As Ephesians 6:12-13 (ESV) reminds us:
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm."
And so we stand, as believers called to live boldly. Are you daily putting on the full armor of God for this fight?
What does standing firm look like for you and your family right now?
Friends, do not grow weary. If you know Christ, live boldly and unashamed. And if you do not, let this be the moment you come to Him. Politics can preserve freedom for a season, but only Christ gives freedom that lasts forever.
Charlie Kirk's assassination is a tragedy, but it must not be wasted. It must be a clarion call for those who love freedom and truth to rise with unshakable resolve.
But standing does not mean standing alone. Now more than ever, we must link arms with those people and organizations already on the front lines, especially in Alabama. Add your name, your prayers, your presence, and your voice to the fight.
Never surrender.
Never stop speaking truth.
Live boldly for Christ.
Protect what matters most: God, family, and country.
Charlie Kirk (1993-2025) gave his life speaking truth with courage. Please continue to pray for his wife and their two young children, and let us honor his memory by carrying his legacy forward with the same bold faith and steadfast resolve.
