In the Spirit of Thatcher, For the People of Alabama
“Like Thatcher, I believe leadership means standing firm, speaking frankly, and serving with purpose”—Guest Opinion by Dr. Nicole Jones Wadsworth

At a Lieutenant Governor political forum in Hoover last month, one of the moderators posed a simple question: name your favorite historical figure. Without a moment’s pause, I responded with Margaret Thatcher.
Margaret Thatcher had the courage to lead with conviction, stand firm under immense pressure, and fundamentally reshape her country by refusing to apologize for strong principles or tough decisions. She understood a timeless concept: leadership is measured by courage.
Margaret Thatcher did not rise to power because the path was easy. Thatcher rose because she believed her country was worth fighting for. In the face of criticism, doubt, and enormous pressure, she stood steady. She carried the weight of responsibility with grace and resolve, and she reminded the world that strength means you have the willingness to do what is right when it would be easier to do nothing.
She believed in the dignity of work, in the power of freedom, and in the truth that ordinary people—families, workers, small business owners—are the real heart of a nation. Margaret Thatcher spoke for those who simply wanted a chance to build a better life, and she refused to let government or fear stand in the way of that opportunity.
As I seek to serve as Lieutenant Governor of Alabama, I am inspired by those same principles. Alabama is filled with hardworking people who love their communities, raise their children with faith, and deserve leaders who will fight for their future. Like Thatcher, I believe leadership means standing firm, speaking frankly, and serving with purpose.
My commitment is to Build a Better Alabama through thoughtful policy and responsible governance. As Lieutenant Governor, I will use my influence to advocate for job creation and retention, pathways to employment, dependable infrastructure, rural healthcare access, and public safety support—all issues I have worked with extensively throughout my career in business. These are real solutions that can stifle generational poverty. These are covenants to the next generation so that our children and grandchildren inherit an Alabama that is stronger, safer, and full of opportunity.
This election cycle, for once, let’s put the career political games aside. Your vote represents the kind of state we want to leave behind. It is about choosing courage over complacency, conviction over convenience, and service over self.
I am asking you to stand with me. Believe what Alabama can become. Help us build a future worthy of the 5.1 million residents who call our state home.
The Republican primary is Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and I, Nicole Jones Wadsworth, would be honored to earn your vote for Lieutenant Governor. Together, we can Build a Better Alabama.
