Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has directed the Executive Budget Office to send her proposed Fiscal Year 2027 General Fund and Education Trust Fund budgets to the Legislature. Her announcement marks the opening of the final regular session of her Governorship.

Ivey called the plans “strong, conservative budgets that will serve our state well into the future.” She highlighted a focus on fiscal discipline while supporting key services that families depend on.

The General Fund budget seeks to maintain responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. Ivey said it also prioritizes core services, including public safety. “This will ensure Alabama remains the best State to live, work and raise a family,” she said.

The Governor noted that her Education Trust Fund plan would be the largest in Alabama’s history. Ivey said the budget continues financial backing for key programs such as:

  • Literacy and Numeracy Acts
  • Turnaround Schools initiative
  • CHOOSE Act education reforms
  • First Class Pre-K program

Ivey also highlighted support for paid parental leave for teachers, expanded school safety measures, and another teacher pay raise. “Education will continue to be my number one priority over these next 12 months,” she said.

The Governor’s budgeting approach reflects her broad goals for the State as she nears the end of her term. Lawmakers now will review and adjust the proposals during this year’s session.

By stressing conservative spending and targeted investments, Ivey’s plan seeks to balance fiscal caution with strategic support for long-term Statewide priorities.
