IVF Group Targets Mitchell in New AG Campaign Ad
Grassroots IVF families launch statewide ad opposing Jay Mitchell, citing his court ruling and its impact on fertility access
A conservative grassroots group formed in the wake of Alabama’s IVF controversy is now stepping into the State’s Attorney General race, launching a statewide ad campaign against former State Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell.
Alabama Families for IVF, a coalition of parents who conceived through in vitro fertilization, began airing its first television advertisement Thursday across major media markets. The group says the ad marks the opening phase of a broader effort to oppose Mitchell’s candidacy.
The campaign centers on Mitchell’s role in a controversial ruling issued by the Alabama Supreme Court earlier this year. That decision prompted widespread uncertainty around IVF services in the state and led several clinics to suspend operations over liability concerns.
Katelanne Fadalla, an IVF parent and chair of the group’s advisory committee, sharply criticized Mitchell’s involvement in the ruling.
“IVF helps committed married couples accomplish the greatest thing that we can do as humans — bring new life into the world — and it fulfills the promise of Psalms 127:3, which tells us that ‘Children are a heritage from the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is His reward,’” Fadalla said. “As a member of the Supreme Court, Jay Mitchell wrote a fatally flawed opinion that shocked the world and brought IVF services in Alabama to a sudden halt. We must not give him another opportunity to stand in the way of unborn life as Attorney General.”
The fallout from the ruling was swift. Clinics across Alabama paused IVF treatments amid fears of legal exposure. The issue drew national attention, with figures including Donald Trump, Katie Britt, and Tommy Tuberville weighing in. Republican lawmakers at both the state and federal level moved to address the legal uncertainty, while the Trump administration later issued an executive order aimed at protecting access to IVF services.
According to the group, its 16-member advisory board is made up entirely of parents who used IVF. Members are based in communities across the state, including Mobile, Birmingham, Gadsden, Auburn, and Fairhope.
The ad—voiced by IVF parent Annie Hensler—has been placed on broadcast television, cable networks, and digital platforms. Organizers say additional ads are expected in the coming weeks as the Attorney General race continues to take shape.
