Jerry Carl Files FEC Paperwork to Run for Congress in Alabama’s 1st District
Move follows his narrow defeat last year by Barry Moore

Former U.S. Representative Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run again for Alabama’s 1st Congressional District in 2026. He submitted a Statement of Candidacy on August 7 for "Jerry Carl for Congress."
The move follows his narrow defeat to incumbent Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) last year. The loss came after Alabama’s congressional map was redrawn, forcing both politicians into the same District.
Moore is widely expected to vacate the seat to pursue a U.S. Senate run. With Senator Tommy Tuberville pursuing the Governorship in 2026, his Senate seat has become open. Moore is set to make a “big” announcement on August 15, and it is widely speculated that he will announce his Senate candidacy at that time.
Carl teased a “major announcement coming soon” via social media earlier this week. He is not expected to formally launch his campaign until after Moore’s announcement.
Alabama’s 1st Congressional District spans the nine southernmost counties of the state, including Mobile and Baldwin. The Republican primary is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
