Jim Miller Pledges Half of First-Year Council Salary to Support Trussville Teachers

Veteran Jim Miller, candidate for Trussville City Council – Place 4, has announced a bold commitment to support local educators: if elected, he will donate half of his first-year council salary directly to teachers in the Trussville City School system to fund classroom needs.
Miller says the decision stems from his personal belief in the transformative power of education. “Education is the great equalizer in our society,” he said. “With it, you can achieve escape velocity from your past and rocket into your future.” Reflecting on his own upbringing, Miller added, “A great public education helped shape me into the man I am today, and I want to give back by supporting the foot soldiers on the front lines of learning.”
The funds, which would come directly from Miller’s city council salary, will be distributed in partnership with school leadership to ensure flexibility and impact. Teachers would be able to use the money for supplies, educational technology, and special projects tailored to their classrooms.
A retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel with 26 years of service and a current defense contracting professional, Miller said the pledge reflects his core campaign values of service, accountability, and investing in the future of the city. “Teachers are on the front lines of shaping the next generation,” he noted. “Far too often, they spend their own money to make sure students have the tools and materials they need. I want to take real, tangible action to help them do what they do best—teach and inspire.”
Miller plans to begin donating with his first council paycheck in 2025 and will continue the commitment through his first year in office. He is the first candidate in this year’s Trussville municipal election to make such a financial pledge in support of public education.
In addition to his military and professional experience, Miller is active in the community. He teaches Sunday School at First Baptist Church Trussville, serves on the City Council Veterans Committee, and is involved with the local chapters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Miller’s campaign for Place 4 emphasizes fiscal discipline, transparency, and community-driven leadership. The Trussville municipal election is scheduled for August 26, 2025.
