John Jacobs Announces Bid for Alabama House District 37 Seat
Running “to bring tried and true conservative values, practical solutions, and servant leadership to Montgomery”

John Jacobs, a longtime educator and committed conservative, has formally launched his campaign for Alabama House District 37. He will compete in the Republican primary on May 19, 2026.
With a 40-year career in public education—31 of those as an administrator—and three terms as Superintendent of Randolph County Schools, Jacobs says he brings unmatched experience to the race.
A resident of Randolph County for over four decades, Jacobs is a graduate of Ranburne High School (class of 1974). He holds education degrees from Jacksonville State University and the University of West Georgia, and carries certifications in physical education, biology, guidance and counseling, and school leadership.
Beyond the classroom, Jacobs is deeply embedded in Alabama’s agricultural sector. As a member of the Cattlemen’s Association, the Alabama Pecan Growers Association, and the Audubon Society, he has worked firsthand as a cattle rancher, timber producer, pecan orchard owner, and corn farmer. He has also held leadership roles in education organizations such as the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools and the American Association of School Administrators, and served on the state boards for middle school principals, secondary principals, and school superintendents.
On his decision to run, Jacobs said,
“I’m running for Alabama House District 37 to bring tried and true conservative values, practical solutions, and servant leadership to Montgomery. My decades of experience in education, agriculture, and community leadership have prepared me to tackle the challenges facing our district and state and bring home results that help the people of my district.”
In describing his guiding principles, Jacobs added,
“I believe in limited government, strong schools, and protecting the values that make Alabama great. Parents should be active in their child’s education, families deserve to feel safe, and taxpayers are owed honesty and transparency from our elected officials. In the legislature, that’s exactly what I’ll stand for.”
Jacobs’ community involvement includes work on the boards of Partners in Education, United Way, and the Woodland Recreation Board. He also coached youth sports and earned the Mike Campbell Exemplary Leadership Award for his school leadership contributions.
The current District 37 seat is held by Rep. Bob Fincher (R-Rocky Branch), who has declined to seek re-election. Another declared candidate for the seat is Jeff Monroe, Mayor of Five Points.
Jacobs says he looks forward to meeting voters across House District 37 as the campaign moves forward toward the May primary.
