As candidates for Congress representing Alabama’s 4th and 5th districts, we stand in unwavering solidarity against the systematic disenfranchisement of our constituents. From the dismantling of reproductive healthcare to the continued erosion of the Voting Rights Act, the message from our institutions is clear: the rights of Black women are under siege. Yesterday, the Alabama Legislature brought that siege home by silencing the voices of people in their own ‘People’s House.’
This is a betrayal of the very spirit of Alabama. Our motto claims “We Dare Defend Our Rights,” yet our current leaders seem to believe those rights are a luxury only reserved for the wealthiest, most well-connected white men amongst us. We refuse to accept a version of Alabama where justice is tiered and representation is conditional.

For more than two and a half centuries, Black women have been the vanguard of American Democracy, carrying the torch of justice through our darkest hours. We stand with them today and every day. It is time for the people of Alabama to reject the extremism that seeks to divide us. We must reclaim our government from those who use it as a weapon of exclusion and vote for a future where democracy finally belongs to everyone.
