Judge Fridy has long been recognized for his commitment to public service.

Alabama Court of Civil Appeals Judge Matt Fridy, a respected figure in the state's legal and political circles, is currently in intensive care following a massive heart attack. The news has prompted an outpouring of support from friends, colleagues, and elected officials across Alabama.
State Representative Jim Hill, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, opened a recent committee meeting with a heartfelt prayer for Judge Fridy. “When you have a massive heart attack and you're in intensive care, that trumps every single thing we're doing in here this afternoon,” Hill said. “We just love Matt. We've known him for so long. We think so much of him. He's such a value to this state. He was a value to this state when he was in this Legislature. He is a value to this state on the Court of Civil Appeals.”
Judge Fridy has long been recognized for his commitment to public service. He was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2014 to represent District 73, which includes parts of Montevallo, Alabaster, Pelham, and Helena. He was re-elected in 2018 and later elected to the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals in 2020.
A native of Montevallo, Fridy graduated from the University of Montevallo in 1998 with a degree in history. He went on to earn his law degree from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law in 2001. He clerked for U.S. District Judge Edwin Nelson and later joined the law firm Wallace, Jordan, Ratliff & Brandt. In 2023, Governor Kay Ivey appointed him to the University of Montevallo Board of Trustees.
Judge Fridy and his wife, Kimberly, live in Pelham with their five children.
As the community waits for further updates, many across the state are keeping Judge Fridy and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
