Julian Boykin Interviews Pat Bishop
Veteran, LEO and Republican Lt. Governor candidate Pat Bishop details plans on crime, jobs, and healthcare in wide-ranging campaign interview
From Political Talk with Julian Boykin:
Alabama Republican Lieutenant Governor candidate Pat Bishop is leaning on a lifetime of service as he makes his case to voters, outlining a platform centered on public safety, workforce training, and rural healthcare during a recent interview.
Speaking with host Julian Boykin, Bishop described a career that spans both military and law enforcement roles. He served 26 years in the military and later worked as a police officer in Birmingham, along with time at the Cullman County Sheriff’s Department. He is also a graduate of the Birmingham School of Law.
That background, Bishop said, shapes his approach to crime and public safety. He pointed to the “broken window effect” as a guiding principle, arguing that small offenses should be addressed early before they lead to more serious problems. At the same time, he stressed that law enforcement officers should stay focused on their core duties, while those facing mental health crises should receive care from trained professionals instead of being routed into the jail system.

On economic issues, Bishop placed a strong emphasis on workforce development. He highlighted the need to expand STEM education, vocational training, and skilled trade programs, saying those paths often provide more stable opportunities than a traditional four-year degree alone. He also pointed to agriculture as an area with untapped potential, particularly through agricultural engineering and hands-on summer training programs aimed at younger Alabamians.
Fiscal policy is another key piece of his campaign. Bishop called for a renewed focus on fiduciary responsibility in State government, with an eye toward lowering the tax burden on residents. Among his priorities are reducing costs tied to car tag fees and grocery taxes.
Healthcare access, especially in rural communities, rounded out his platform. Bishop voiced support for expanding Medicaid, describing it as a practical step to help keep rural hospitals open and improve care access for veterans and working families across the state.
The interview reflects a campaign message rooted in service, with Bishop positioning himself as a candidate focused on practical solutions and long-term stability for Alabama.
