Kaycee Cavender, a lifelong advocate for conservative values and community-driven leadership, has announced she is running for the Alabama House of Representatives in District 40, which covers all of Cleburne County and portions of Calhoun County.

Cavender, a small-business owner and homeschooling mother of four, said she feels called to bring “strong conservative leadership to Montgomery.” In announcing her campaign, she said,

“I am running for the State House because our families deserve a fighter who will protect our values, defend our freedoms, and ensure that Montgomery finally works for us. For too long, our district has sent hard-earned tax dollars to Montgomery without seeing a fair return. It’s time we bring that money home, strengthen our local economy, and protect the way of life that makes Cleburne and Calhoun Counties so special.”

Cavender’s campaign is built around three central promises:

  1. Cutting Taxes & Ending Wasteful Spending
She pledges to push for lower taxes on families and small businesses. She also plans to hold state leaders accountable for how taxpayer funds are spent.
  2. Protecting Conservative Values & Keeping Children Safe
Cavender emphasizes her commitment to defending parental rights, religious freedom, and protecting young people from political indoctrination. She supports educational freedom — including homeschooling and parent-driven school choice.
  3. Returning Local Dollars to District 40
She wants to make sure District 40 receives its fair share of infrastructure funding, rural development, and essential services — instead of being ignored by state government.

Cavender has long worked as a grassroots organizer across Alabama. She co-founded Health Freedom Alabama in 2021, rallying for health freedom and opposing vaccine mandates. During her activism, she organized citizens, testified before lawmakers, and advocated for legislative transparency and government responsibility.

She went on to serve on the Alabama State Board of Midwifery, after the state legalized certified professional midwives. Professionally, she earned an Associate of Science degree from Southern Union State Community College, studied further at Jacksonville State University, and obtained a paralegal certification. Earlier in her career, she worked at law offices for former district attorneys and municipal judges in Baldwin County—work that gave her a firsthand view into how laws are made.

Cavender and her husband, Robert, live in Heflin and run several small businesses in Cleburne County. They have four children and are deeply rooted in their community. The couple attends Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where Kaycee teaches a women’s Bible study and helps with Sunday School, and Robert serves as a trustee and worship leader.

District 40 includes all of Cleburne County plus parts of Calhoun County, covering areas such as Jacksonville, White Plains, Oxford, and others. The District is currently represented by Rep. Chad Robertson (R-Heflin).

Robertson first won the seat in 2022 after a narrow runoff victory. He announced his re-election campaign in September 2025.

The Republican primary will be on May 19, 2026, with the general election set for November 3, 2026.
