Ken McFeeters Takes Gubernatorial Campaign to Tuscaloosa
“Taking it to the people” campaign approach highlights difference between he and his opponent
Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken McFeeters is not as well known nor as well-funded as Tommy Tuberville, but he may be more creative in his approach to campaigning.
McFeeters went to Tuscaloosa Saturday with a campaign sign towed behind a bicycle, touring the University of Alabama campus and speaking to voters there for the game against Eastern Illinois.
ALPolitics.com spoke with McFeeters about his experience in Tuscaloosa today.
“It was incredible today,” McFeeters said. “I was surrounded by literally tens of thousands of people, and it went over real well. There were nothing but positive comments, no heckling, and everybody was having a good time.”
When asked about the race and his realistically small chance of defeating Tuberville in the May 19 primary. McFeeters said, “I don’t care. I’m telling the truth, and I’m having fun. I’m taking it to the people. I want the people to be able to look into my eyes, look into my heart, and look into my soul to see that I’m sincere. They’ve forgotten it, but the people have the power. That’s why I’m going to the people—to remind them that they have the power to decide who is going to be their Governor—not the special interests.”
McFeeters has criticized Tuberville in the past as being beholden to his donors, saying “Tuberville has raised more campaign money than any politician in Alabama history—and no one raises that kind of money by putting the people first. They raise it by serving the donors and interests behind the curtain.”
McFeeters’ campaign is focused on local control of politics, food independence, rethinking medical care and revamping the education system to teach virtues.
