Congressional candidate Terri LaPoint has secured endorsements from two health freedom organizations, highlighting her long-standing advocacy on parental rights and medical choice.

LaPoint, who is running as a Republican in Alabama’s 3rd Congressional District, received backing from Stand for Health Freedom and Health Freedom Alabama. The endorsements come as she campaigns on issues tied to informed consent, privacy, and limits on government involvement in healthcare decisions.

Before entering politics, LaPoint worked as a labor doula and childbirth educator. She later moved into investigative journalism, focusing on cases she describes as “medical kidnapping,” involving disputes between families and state agencies over care decisions.

“For decades I have served families and pushed back against governmental overreach. More than any other candidate on the ballot, I have fought for the common-sense values of parental rights, informed consent, and medical freedom. I am honored to receive endorsements from these valiant groups who are fighting hard for these foundational human rights,” LaPoint said.

In its endorsement, Stand for Health Freedom wrote:

“Congratulations! Stand for Health Freedom (SHF) is proud to endorse your campaign for Alabama US House - District 3! Your commitment to protecting medical freedom, informed consent, parental rights, religious liberty, privacy, and free speech reflects the very principles that define our nationwide movement of more than one million advocates, and growing.”

Health Freedom Alabama also voiced its support, stating:

“These candidates are stepping up to defend freedom, liberty, and the right of every Alabamian to make their own medical decisions without government overreach.”

The group added that LaPoint is a candidate who is “ ready to:

✔Restore medical freedom and personal choice

✔Put parents back in charge of their children’s healthcare

✔Reject mandates and government overreach

✔Defend liberty at every level of government”

LaPoint’s campaign centers on issues that gained wider attention during the COVID-19 pandemic, though she says her work began years earlier. She has advocated for parental decision-making in childbirth, supported homeschooling rights, and worked with lawmakers on breastfeeding protections and midwife access.

She also points to her involvement in a 2023 Alabama parental rights law, saying she authored an early resolution supporting the measure, which affirms the right of parents to direct the care and education of their children.

During the pandemic, LaPoint opposed vaccine and mask mandates, stating, “No one should lose their job or be threatened with DHR taking their child over a decision to refuse a shot or a medical procedure.”

As a journalist, she has reported on cases involving state intervention in family medical decisions. One of her earliest widely shared stories, published in 2014, described what she called “Vaccine Blackmail,” involving a dispute at a Birmingham hospital. LaPoint said the experience pushed her deeper into advocacy work.

Over time, she has traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with lawmakers and raise concerns about parental rights and healthcare policy.

Now seeking federal office, LaPoint says her campaign is rooted in those same issues. The recent endorsements reflect her record built over years of advocacy.
