Sheriff Max Sanders of Lawrence County announced his endorsement today of Jay Mitchell in the race for Alabama Attorney General. First elected in 2018, Sheriff Sanders is widely regarded in State law-enforcement circles, with his tenure marked by improvements to public-safety services in Lawrence County.

Sheriff Sanders said in a statement:

“Jay Mitchell understands the realities that officers face in communities like ours. Here in Lawrence County, we depend on strong partnerships and need an Attorney General who we can deliver meaningful support from Montgomery. There simply isn’t a better partner for law enforcement than Jay Mitchell. It is my privilege to offer him my full endorsement.”

During the Sheriff’s tenure, his office has achieved several milestones under his leadership: regional 911 consolidation, streamlined departmental operations, and enhanced coordination among local, State and federal law-enforcement agencies. These efforts are credited with faster emergency response times and stronger protections for families and businesses.

In response, Jay Mitchell remarked:

“Sheriff Sanders is an exceptional advocate for law enforcement. He has a long record of public service that is marked by operational excellence and high moral character—he knows exactly what his community needs. As Attorney General, I look forward to being a strong partner for law enforcement leaders like Sheriff Sanders.”
