From Benderson for Alabama

I recently qualified to run for Alabama State Senate District 24 and became the presumptive Republican nominee. Like many of you, I stepped forward because I believe our district deserves bold, principled, and accountable conservative leadership. I was prepared to carry that message into the general election.

Since then, I have been removed from the ballot for an alleged violation of party bylaws.

I respect the role political parties play in shaping platforms and maintaining internal order. However, there comes a moment when a rigid, one-size-fits-all application of internal rules collides with a far greater principle: the right of voters to have a meaningful choice at the ballot box.

This issue is bigger than one candidate.

District 24 is not served when conservative voters are left without an option in the general election. Removing a qualified candidate from the ballot does not strengthen the Republican Party — it narrows it. It does not protect conservative values — it weakens them by silencing debate and limiting voter participation.

When voters are denied a choice, the result is predictable: incumbents walk back into office unchallenged, insulated from accountability, and free to continue policies that may not reflect the evolving needs of our district or the State of Alabama.

The Republican Party has long stood for individual liberty, grassroots engagement, and the belief that power should rest with the people. Those principles are not abstract — they are tested in moments like this. If we trust the voters to choose our president, our governor, and our legislators, we should trust them to choose their state senator.

This is not about internal technicalities. It is about whether conservative voters in District 24 will have a voice in November.

I am asking you — as engaged citizens, Republicans, and conservatives — to respectfully contact the leadership of the Alabama Republican Party and urge them to restore my ballot access. Ask them to prioritize voter choice over procedural rigidity. Ask them to allow the people of District 24 to decide who represents them in the Alabama State Senate.

Our district deserves a real debate about fiscal responsibility, economic growth, infrastructure, education, and protecting constitutional freedoms. It deserves transparency and accountability. Most of all, it deserves a choice.

This is not a request for special treatment. It is a call for fairness and for faith in the voters themselves.

Let the people decide.

If you believe in open elections, competitive races, and a Republican Party that trusts its grassroots, I encourage you to make your voice heard. Contact party leadership. Attend meetings. Speak up respectfully but firmly.

District 24 belongs to its voters — not to internal technicalities.

The strength of our party, and of Alabama itself, lies in the confidence that when given a choice, the people will choose wisely.

Let’s make sure they have that choice.

If restored to the ballot, Benderson will be unopposed in the Republican primary on May 19, and will face Democrat Bobby Singleton—first elected to the Alabama State Senate in 2004–in the general election on November 3.
