Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth announced on Tuesday that he is joining the efforts of Alabama’s Freedom First Coalition, a new group of conservative policymakers and pro-business trade associations who are committed to promoting the ideals of low taxation, less regulation, and fewer government mandates.

“Business works best when government gets out of its way, and low taxes, fewer regulations, and minimal mandates are the ingredients for the recipe of job creation and economic development,” Ainsworth said. “At the same time, the basic principles that the Freedom First Coalition promotes provide the foundation of the commonsense conservatism embraced by President Reagan and President Trump.

Throughout his time in public service, Ainsworth has consistently opposed tax increases and successfully reduced the state sales tax on groceries by half so Alabama families could enjoy a dinner table tax cut.

As chairman of the Alabama Small Business Commission, Ainsworth has also proposed and helped enact policies that support and grow both new and existing businesses, ranging from small "mom-and-pop" operations to large employers, and he is among the state’s strongest advocates for workforce development, career tech education, and other job training programs.

Among the groups participating in the Freedom First Coalition are the Alabama Policy Institute conservative think tank, the Alabama Farmers Federation, the Alabama REALTORS® Association, the Alabama Mining Association, the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama, the Alabama Retail Association, the Business Council of Alabama, Manufacture Alabama, the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association, Alabama AGC, and the Alabama Road Builders Association.
