Liz Lane Elected Chair of Hoover Democrats

From the Hoover Democrats
My name is Liz Lane and I am honored to be the new Chair for the Hoover Democrats.
I’m a full-time abstract artist, wife and mother. When Trump was elected for his second term, my girls, 7 and 9, were old enough to understand that a woman had never been elected president in almost 250 years.
We tell our children they can be anything that they want to be, yet, as a parent, I see obstacles in the way. The obstacles come in all forms- sexism, racism, ableism, environmental devastation, corruption and corporate greed.
All of our children will experience one or more of these obstacles at some point in their lives. The morning after that election, I felt a calling- a calling not just to fight for my own girls, but for all children. We tell them the can be anything, but the reality is, unless we fight for that future, plain and simple, they can’t. I didn’t know what that fight would look like, but I knew my “why,” and my why — being a small part of the fight for a better future — has dropped me off as the Chair for the Hoover Democrats.
So much in politics happens at a local level. My husband and I choose to raise our kids in Hoover, Alabama. Hoover is a naturally beautiful community, known as “Arbor city,” and located in one of the most biodiverse parts of the world, at the foothills of Appalachian mountains. Our city is made stronger by an internationally and culturally diverse community. I can walk outside my house and smell food, featuring recipes from around the world, cooking in my neighbor’s homes. Our kids attend Hoover public schools, which are some of the best in the state. Embracing Hoover means embracing all of our neighbors.
Our leadership should reflect the beautifully diverse community that calls this city home. As Chair of the Hoover Democrats, my goal is to help the city and state find leaders that will fight for all residents.
I grew up believing that government was supposed to work on behalf of the people. That our tax dollars were supposed to go to programs and services that actually benefited the people that love our communities enough to call them home.
I ran for city council last year, and while I didn’t win a seat, I learned a lot about local politics — the good, the bad, and the ugly corruption that can easily win when no one is watching. But I also learned that there is way more good than bad in this community. That we just need to find each other. That, when we work individually, the world feels impossible, but when we work together, we can make real change at all levels. Big change that sounds like, “women will be president.” Little change that sounds like “let’s go fishing,” and not worry about the fish you caught causing cancer.
Hoover is a city of over 90,000 people. Imagine what we can do as neighbors that really care about each other? As chair, I hope to invite everyone in that wants to be a leader, a helper, and a neighbor for good.
Change doesn’t take big acts. It takes a million small acts by a lot of people- acts of service, acts of protest, acts of love and kindness. If you are ready to make real change, please join the Hoover Democrats. Please join this fight for the future.

Christian Coleman is proudly serving as vice chair and I’m so honored to be working in collaboration with him. Coleman is a dad to two young girls, and we share a commitment to making the future brighter. Christian has been a member of the Hoover Democrats, serving in all capacities for many years. He served as Vice Chair, stepping down when deployed to the Middle East. He then served as Chair, leading a blue wave inside of Hoover. With the ongoing reality that deployment may come again, he has decided to step down from the Chair and act as Vice Chair, as his dedication continues.
In addition to serving his country in the military, he works as a freelance writer and has run for House District 47 and Hoover City Council in 2025. He is currently running for the State Democratic Executive Committee, District 47.
