Manufacture Alabama Backs Gentry for PSC
Manufacture Alabama endorses Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry for PSC, citing his focus on reliable utilities, strong infrastructure and growth
Manufacture Alabama has endorsed Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry in the 2026 race for the Alabama Public Service Commission, Place 1, pointing to his focus on reliable infrastructure, stable utility rates, and continued economic growth.
Manufacture Alabama, a Montgomery-based trade association representing manufacturers across the State, said competitive energy costs and dependable systems are vital for industry and job creation. The group advocates for policies that support manufacturing and a pro-business climate in Alabama.
“Matt Gentry understands that competitive utility rates and modern infrastructure are essential for Alabama manufacturers to grow, invest, and create jobs,” said Jon Barganier, President of Manufacture Alabama. “As Sheriff, Matt Gentry has proven he is boots on the ground, making sure systems work for the people they serve. That same hands-on leadership and accountability is exactly what Alabama needs on the Public Service Commission. He brings a practical, solutions-oriented approach to public service, and we are proud to support him.”
The Alabama Public Service Commission regulates utilities such as electricity, natural gas and certain transportation services. Two Associate Commissioner seats will be on the ballot in the 2026 election cycle, with party primaries scheduled for May 19 and the general election set for November 3.
Gentry welcomed the endorsement and emphasized the importance of manufacturers to the state’s economy.
“I’m honored to earn the endorsement of Manufacture Alabama and Jon Barganier,” Gentry said. “Manufacturers are the backbone of Alabama’s economy. As a Commissioner, I will fight for low utility rates, dependable service, and smart regulation. I also strongly support modern transportation and infrastructure initiatives that help move goods efficiently and keep Alabama competitive.”
Gentry said he plans to work with industry leaders, utility providers and local communities to ensure Alabama remains affordable and open for business.
Gentry has served as Sheriff of Cullman County for the past eleven years. A former Marine and law enforcement officer, he has built a reputation locally for accessibility and steady leadership in the Sheriff’s office.
Gentry and his wife, Susie, have two sons, three dogs, and a herd of longhorn cattle.
