Mark Gidley Announces Reelection Bid in AL House District 29
Gadsden kickoff at Pitman Theatre draws enthusiastic crowd, considerable support
Alabama State Representative Mark Gidley (R-Glencoe) kicked off his reelection campaign in House District 29 Monday evening at the Pitman Theatre in Gadsden
Gidley was introduced by his son-in-law, Randy Helms, who lauded Gidley’s efforts in past legislative sessions. An endorsement statement from the Speaker of the Alabama House, Nathaniel Ledbetter, was read by Rep. Mack Butler.
Gidley spoke about how he felt called to run in 2022 and again feels called to seek reelection to continue representing District 29.
“I want to keep standing for faith and family, supporting our Veterans, and representing our conservative Alabama values,” Gidley said. “That’s why I’ve prefiled the bill to display the 10 Commandments in our schools. It’s why I’ve prefilled my elder abuse bill. It’s why I hope the people of District 29 will send me back to Montgomery—so I can keep standing for them.”
In the 2025 legislative session, Gidley sponsored legislation to prevent anyone convicted of elder abuse or exploitation from receiving any benefits from the abused person’s estate, and requiring the 10 Commandments be displayed in the common areas of K-12 schools. Neither bill passed, which is why Gidley is reintroducing them—as is often the case, bills may require several sessions of contemplation by the Legislature prior to being passed.
Gidley, who has served Alabama House District 29 (Etowah and Calhoun Counties) since 2022, is a graduate of Hokes Bluff High School and Pentecostal Theological Seminary, and holds a Master’s Degree in Theology. He is married to Kathy Gidley née Chapman. The couple have two daughters and four grandchildren.
