Matt Woods Wins Alabama Senate District 5 Special Election
Fills vacancy left by resignation of Greg Reed

Republican Matt Woods has won the Special General Election for Alabama State Senate District 5, continuing his record of public service and conservative leadership.
Woods will now represent a broad swath of west-central Alabama, including portions of Fayette, Lamar, Walker, Jefferson, and Tuscaloosa Counties. His victory Tuesday night keeps the seat in Republican hands. He will fill the vacancy left by former State Sen. Greg Reed, who resigned earlier this year.
The Alabama Republican Party offered congratulations shortly after the results were called. "Matt brings a strong record of public service and conservative leadership to the Senate, and we’re excited to see him continue serving the people of Fayette, Lamar, Walker, Jefferson, and Tuscaloosa Counties," ALGOP said in a statement.
Local Republican leaders, including those from Jefferson, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Fayette counties, rallied behind Woods throughout the campaign, helping to solidify support across the district. His platform focused on traditional conservative values, economic development, and education reform.
Woods is expected to be sworn in ahead of the next legislative session.
