Alabama Congressional candidate Joshua McKee is on the ground in Montego Bay, Jamaica with Project Dynamo, assisting with post-hurricane relief efforts as well as the evacuation of Americans from the devastated island. Hurricane Melissa made landfall as a Category 5 storm with sustained winds near 185 mph, bringing catastrophic winds, flooding, and storm surge to the island. Officials warn that much of western Jamaica is experiencing major damage and infrastructure failures.

Thus far, nearly 4,000 pounds of critical aid (MREs, baby formula, tarps, water purification systems, medical kits, and hygiene items) have been delivered via ground convoy to Key West, Florida. Those materials will be loaded across multiple aircraft flights and delivered to those in need on the ground in Jamaica.

Operations will be based out of Jamaica and Key West, conducting repeated shuttle missions: delivering supplies from Key West into Jamaica and evacuating stranded Americans out to Key West for onward travel home.

Sources tell ALPolitics.com that Representative Barry Moore (R-AL1) and his office are assisting in the logistics behind the relief efforts. Moore, who is currently running for U.S. Senate , is working to facilitate flights over Cuban airspace to and from Jamaica.
