Moore Defends Trump’s Iran Policy as House Blocks War Powers Bill
Rep. Barry Moore backs President Trump’s authority on Operation Epic Fury as the U.S. House rejects a resolution to limit military action in Iran
U.S. Representative Barry Moore (R‑AL‑01) issued a strong statement Thursday in support of President Donald Trump and the ongoing U.S. military campaign against Iran — Operation Epic Fury — as lawmakers on Capitol Hill rejected a War Powers Resolution meant to restrict the president’s authority.
Moore’s comments came after the House of Representatives voted 219‑212 to defeat a resolution that would have curbed Trump’s ability to continue military operations without specific congressional approval. That resolution failed one day after the Senate also blocked a similar measure.
“For decades, the Iranian regime has threatened America, armed terrorist proxies, and pursued a nuclear weapon,” Moore said. “Operation Epic Fury is a targeted, defensive response to an imminent threat against American citizens and our troops in the region.” The congressman added that Trump is acting under his Article II authority and has “properly notified Congress under the War Powers Resolution.”
Moore’s remarks echo broader Republican support for the operation, which the White House describes as a coordinated U.S.-Israeli effort to dismantle Iran’s missile capabilities, weaken its armed forces, and prevent nuclear development.
Critics of the military action had backed the War Powers Resolution, arguing it was necessary to reaffirm Congress’s constitutional role in authorizing hostilities. Opponents of the measure contended that requiring prior approval would effectively halt strikes and limit the President’s ability to protect U.S. forces and interests.
Supporters of the Trump administration say the President acted within the legal framework by notifying congressional leadership and asserting that Iran’s longstanding hostility constituted an imminent threat. Moore’s statement emphasized that view, calling for unity behind the Commander in Chief and “the brave men and women carrying out this mission.”
The debate over the War Powers Resolution comes amid broader international tensions tied to Operation Epic Fury, which has seen both strategic advances and casualties. In recent days, Iranian retaliation has led to deaths of U.S. service members and raised questions about the mission’s duration and scope.
As the operation continues, the political divide in Congress mirrors the national debate on America’s role in the Middle East.-
