American Pulse conducted a poll showing Barry Moore in the lead, Marshall in second and Hudson in third.

A newly released poll provides an early look at Alabama’s Republican primary for U.S. Senate, showing Barry Moore leading the field as the race begins to take shape, while a significant portion of voters have yet to make a decision.

According to the April 3 survey conducted by American Pulse Research & Polling, Moore leads with 26% support among likely Republican voters. Steve Marshall follows at 21%, with businessman Jared Hudson at 14%. Meanwhile, 35% of respondents reported they remain undecided, highlighting a substantial opportunity for growth as the campaign progresses.

The poll, conducted March 30 through April 1, surveyed 505 likely Republican voters via phone and online, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

One of the most significant findings in the poll centers on the impact of President Donald Trump’s endorsement. According to American Pulse pollster Dustin Olson, Moore’s support increased dramatically when voters were informed of the endorsement, rising from 26% to 45%.

“It’s not enough to be endorsed by President Trump; you have to spend a lot of money telling people you’re endorsed by him,” Olson said, pointing to the importance of communicating that support to voters statewide.

The data also shows Moore performing strongly within Alabama’s 1st Congressional District, while continuing to expand his recognition across the rest of the state. His overall favorability rating statewide is comparable to Marshall’s, according to the poll.

A notable share of respondents indicated they had not yet heard of Moore or did not have an opinion, reinforcing that the race remains highly dynamic with room for movement as voters become more familiar with the candidates.

The results reflect some movement from a recent survey conducted by The Alabama Poll, which showed a more tightly grouped field, further indicating that the race is still developing. Like the Alabama Poll, American Pulse is a members-only subscription service. Neither poll lists who directly paid for them and protect the privacy of their subscribers.

The Republican primary is scheduled for May 19 and includes additional candidates Rodney Walker, Dale Shelton Deas Jr., and Seth Burton. On the Democratic side, candidates include Kyle Sweetser, Dakarai Larriett, Mark Wheeler II, Lamont Lavender, and Everett Wess.

The eventual nominee will compete to replace Tommy Tuberville, who is currently running for governor.

With a clear lead in the initial polling, strong support among voters once they learn of his endorsement, and a large share of undecided voters still in play, Moore enters the final stretch of the primary with measurable momentum and a clear path to expand his lead as more voters engage in the race.
