Moore Votes to Fund DHS, Secure Border
Rep. Barry Moore backs DHS funding bill, citing border security, drug interdiction, and disaster response while securing funds for Coffee County EOC
U.S. Representative Barry Moore (R-AL-06) voted this week to fund the Department of Homeland Security and maintain key national security operations.
The House approved H.R. 7744, legislation that provides funding for the Department of Homeland Security and restores operations affected by the ongoing funding dispute. The measure supports border security, cybersecurity, disaster response, and law enforcement efforts nationwide.
Moore said the bill delivers resources needed to protect communities and support those working on the front lines of national security.
“The Homeland Security Appropriations Act delivers the critical resources needed to protect American families,” said Congressman Moore. “This legislation ensures the Department of Homeland Security has the personnel, training, and cutting-edge technology necessary to secure our borders, strengthen cybersecurity, combat the flow of deadly drugs, and defend our communities from terrorists, criminals, and foreign adversaries. It supports the men and women on the front lines while strengthening disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities nationwide."
Moore added that Congress has a duty to ensure the agency remains operational during periods of increased security risk.
“At a time of heightened national security threats, Americans deserve a fully funded and operational DHS. This bill meets that responsibility. It’s time for Democrats to put politics aside and join us in ensuring DHS remains fully funded and focused on protecting American families.”
The legislation funds major DHS agencies, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Transportation Security Administration, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.
The bill also includes provisions to provide back pay, allowances, and benefits to DHS employees affected by the partial shutdown.
Moore secured a local funding request as part of the measure. The bill directs $977,000 toward construction of a new emergency operations center in Coffee County, Alabama. The facility is expected to improve coordination among first responders and speed the deployment of personnel and resources during emergencies.
Beyond local funding, the legislation includes several national security initiatives. The measure provides funding to maintain approximately 22,000 Border Patrol agents, expands maritime surveillance through unmanned systems, and increases resources for immigration detention operations.
Additional funding supports cybersecurity positions within the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Coast Guard operations in the Indo-Pacific region, and efforts to counter drug trafficking, including fentanyl.
The bill also supports security planning for major international events scheduled to take place in the United States in the coming years, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, America’s 250th anniversary celebration, and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
House lawmakers approved the measure this week as part of ongoing efforts to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security and maintain national preparedness during a period of heightened global and domestic security challenges.
