New Nauvoo Clinic Opens, Giving Rural Families Modern Care
Aderholt & local leaders cut ribbon on Friday

U.S. Representative Robert Aderholt (R‑AL4) and local leaders cut the ribbon on Friday to welcome patients into the brand‑new Capstone Rural Health Clinic on Highway 195 in Nauvoo. The 4,600‑square‑foot building replaces a cramped two‑story site and stands across from Nauvoo Town Hall, symbolizing what officials call a fresh start for health care in northern Walker and Winston counties.
“This clinic is more than a building — it is a beacon of hope for rural families,” Aderholt told the crowd. “Congressional earmarks sometimes get a bad name, but this is a shining example of how smart, community‑driven investments can improve lives and strengthen the fabric of our towns.”
Aderholt secured $725,000 in federal funds for the project after Capstone asked for help in 2021. “When my office received the request to help secure funding for this project, I knew it was the kind of investment that makes a real difference,” he said. “That’s why I was proud to request and secure the money to bring this facility to life.”
Capstone’s new clinic fixes many long‑standing problems, including:
- Wider access to primary and behavioral health care
- Room for an extra primary‑care provider
- On‑site case managers to guide patients through medical and social needs
- A private telehealth suite for virtual visits
- Full ADA access, including to the pharmacy
The numbers tell the story. The old center handled about 3,600 visits a year and filled 2,500 prescriptions each month. The larger layout is expected to add 1,000–1,500 visits annually, giving many residents their only nearby option for steady, community‑based care within 30 miles.
Capstone leaders peg the total project cost at roughly $2 million, funded through the federal grant, private donations and clinic reserves.
Aderholt closed his remarks by thanking Capstone’s staff for “ten years of tireless service” in Nauvoo and promising continued support for rural health across Alabama’s 4th District. The clinic opened to patients shortly after the ceremony, marking what organizers hope will be the first of many milestones in the town’s next decade of care.
