Recent disclosures from Alabama Fair Campaign Practices Act (FCPA) filings have revealed concerning evidence of dark money trail connecting out of state gambling interests to the 2026 legislative elections.

Considering these revelations, Bryan Newell, candidate for Alabama House District 50, is calling for transparency, accountability, and immediate review by state authorities.

“The people of District 50 deserve honest representation, free from the influence and out of state special interest seeking to shape our elections,” said Newell.

Reports indicate that an out of state gambling syndicate has directed dark money contributions into the campaign of Bill Morris. While the full scope of these activities is still coming to light, the implications raise serious concerns for voters across the district.

Public trust in our elections is foundational. Any effort, especially from outside our state, to influence Alabama voters through undisclosed or indirect funding must be carefully examined.

Drawing a clear contrast between his campaign and that of his opponent, Newell reaffirmed his principles:

 Firm Opposition to Gambling Expansion
“If the constituents in my district requested, I would support a clean state lottery with no expansion of out-of -state casinos. Revenue dedicated to education and infrastructure repair and upgrades that attract industry.”
Firm Opposition of Property Tax increase
"I will never support raising the property tax in the district unlike my opponent who spearheaded the max property tax increase in Moody, AL.”
A Record of Service, Not Politics
“I am not a politician. I’m a retired U.S. Army Combat Veteran. I served my country for 22 years. I believe that "WE THE PEOPLE" of Alabama, especially the 50th district, needs real representation. We want a government of patriotic citizens not royalty or entitled bureaucrats that act as if getting elected to the state house is a seat at the country club and nothing gets done. We need a representative of the people, for the people, by the people.”
“I believe in GOD, Country, and family. Conducting ourselves with honor, integrity, selfless service, and respect for the rule of law.”

Newell is formally calling on Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall to review these findings and determine whether a full investigation is warranted.
