The Petroleum and Convenience Marketers Association of Alabama (P&CMA) has formally endorsed Matt Gentry, Cullman County’s long-time Sheriff, in his campaign for Public Service Commission, Place 1.

The P&CMA speaks for hundreds of businesses across Alabama that handle fuel distribution, convenience stores, and energy logistics. The group says its members play a critical role in powering Alabama’s economy and keeping transportation flowing.

“Matt Gentry has shown strong leadership and a clear understanding of how critical our industry is to Alabama’s economy,” said Bart Fletcher, President of the P&CMA. “Our members provide the fuel, services, and jobs that power this state, and we believe Matt will be a strong advocate for energy reliability, transparency, and fairness at the Public Service Commission.”

Gentry thanked the association and underscored the link between his platform and the needs of P&CMA members.

“I’m honored to have the endorsement of the Petroleum and Convenience Marketers Association,” Gentry said. “This organization represents the hardworking business owners and employees who keep Alabama moving every single day from local fuel distributors to rural convenience stores that serve as lifelines in their communities. As your next Public Service Commissioner, I’ll continue fighting to protect those jobs, keep energy affordable, and make sure decisions are made with transparency and accountability.”

Gentry has been Cullman County Sheriff for over a decade, during which he has emphasized trust, openness, and outcomes in local law enforcement. In his campaign for the PSC, he has pledged to defend Alabama’s energy independence, back blue-collar workers, and ensure that utility systems remain dependable and reasonably priced for families and businesses.

The PSC regulates electric, gas, and water utility providers across Alabama. The 2026 election for the Commission is scheduled for November 3, with primary elections on May 19.

The Petroleum & Convenience Marketers of Alabama is a nonprofit trade association representing 200 petroleum marketers and convenience store operators across Alabama. Their members own, operate, or supply more than 3,250 convenience stores statewide, including major and independent petroleum marketers. For more information on P&CMA, visit pcmala.org.
