Palmer Awards Patriot Pipeline Scholarship
Shelby County student John Hammac earns full ROTC scholarship to Marion Military Institute, beginning path to Army commission
U.S. Representative Gary Palmer (R-AL-06) has awarded the Patriot Pipeline Scholarship to Shelby County student John Hammac, opening the door to a military career through Marion Military Institute.
The scholarship covers tuition and fees for the school’s two-year program. Marion Military Institute, the nation’s oldest military junior college, is one of just four schools authorized to host the U.S. Army’s Early Commissioning Program. Through that track, cadets can earn a commission as Second Lieutenants in the U.S. Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard upon completion.

Palmer praised Hammac’s decision to serve, pointing to both discipline and a sense of duty.
“John’s decision to serve his country speaks to the strength of character and commitment we’re proud to see in students in Alabama’s Sixth District,” said Palmer. “Programs like these are critical to developing the next generation of military leaders, and I have no doubt John will represent our state well and serve our nation with honor.”
The congressman noted that students across Alabama’s Sixth Congressional District continue to step forward for military service, following a long-standing tradition of leadership and sacrifice.
Marion Military Institute’s Early Commissioning Program offers a fast track into military leadership, pairing classroom work with hands-on training. Graduates leave the program prepared to continue their education while serving as commissioned officers.
