Rep. Aderholt Assures Social Security Offices Will Remain Open Amid Efficiency Improvements
"It’s also important to recognize that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) plays a necessary role in ensuring responsible management of federal resources." - Rep. Robert Aderholt

Concerns have surfaced over reports suggesting Social Security offices in Alabama are closing, but U.S. Representative Robert Aderholt (R-AL) is pushing back against that narrative. In a recent statement, Aderholt reassured residents that essential Social Security services will remain fully accessible while highlighting efforts to ensure taxpayer dollars are used wisely.
Aderholt’s Statement on Social Security Office Adjustments
“Recent reports about the closure of Social Security offices in Alabama do not tell the full story. While changes are being made, I want to reassure residents that these offices will remain open and continue serving the public as they always have.
It’s our understanding the adjustments involve the cancellation of lease agreements for hearing spaces, not the areas used for daily operations. Social Security hearings are now done virtually, and these spaces have not been used for some time, but taxpayers were still paying the rent. These changes will not impact residents’ ability to access Social Security services at these locations.
It’s also important to recognize that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) plays a necessary role in ensuring responsible management of federal resources. However, its actions are not aimed at cutting vital services like Social Security—programs that hardworking Americans have contributed to throughout their lives.
My office remains in close contact with the Social Security Administration to ensure that essential services remain accessible to the people of Alabama. I will continue working to protect these critical programs and advocate for the services our communities rely on.”
— U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-AL)
Responsible Stewardship of Taxpayer Dollars
Aderholt’s statement reflects a commitment to both fiscal responsibility and ensuring that Alabama residents continue to receive the Social Security services they depend on. The decision to end unnecessary lease agreements is a smart move that eliminates wasteful spending without affecting public access to benefits. Virtual hearings, which have become the standard nationwide, allow for more efficient case processing while reducing costs that would otherwise be passed on to taxpayers.
This is exactly the kind of common-sense government Americans want—one that prioritizes services for the people while eliminating bureaucratic inefficiencies. Aderholt’s leadership on this issue demonstrates his ongoing efforts to ensure federal programs operate effectively without unnecessary waste.
While some may attempt to stoke fear about these changes, the reality is that Alabama residents will continue to have access to Social Security services. Aderholt’s proactive approach in working with the Social Security Administration ensures that these programs remain strong, accessible, and financially sustainable for years to come.
