Washington, D.C.- Today, U.S. Representative Barry Moore (AL-01) issued the following statement after the House passed the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025, a key piece of legislation that delivers critical resources for national security and coastal defense - especially for Alabama’s First Congressional District:
“I am proud to support the Coast Guard Authorization Act because it delivers real results for our men and women in uniform and strengthens the security and prosperity of our Gulf Coast communities," said Rep. Moore. "From the Mobile Bay to Orange Beach, folks in South Alabama rely on our Coasties every day to protect our ports, combat crime, and provide aid to those in need. Our Gulf Coast communities will benefit greatly from the investment and upgrades that will be seen when this legislation is signed by the President.”
The legislation reauthorizes the U.S. Coast Guard through Fiscal Year 2029, ensuring that vital missions like search and rescue, counter-narcotics operations, and port security remain fully funded and equipped.
Key Wins for Alabama’s First District:
- The Act enhances Coast Guard patrol capabilities to combat drug smuggling, illegal migration, and human trafficking - key issues facing the Gulf region.
- The legislation identifies the Aviation Training Center in Mobile as a critical training facility and directs a federal study on needs and infrastructure upgrades.
- Funding for new cutters and improved aviation assets ensures faster and more effective response to hurricanes, oil spills, and emergencies along Alabama’s coastline.
- By establishing a new civilian Secretary of the Coast Guard, the legislation brings better accountability to mission planning and budgeting - ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.
