The Republican Women of North Shelby County meet Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the Inverness Country Club, where Republican candidates Rick Pate (Lt. Governor), Pamela Casey (Attorney General) and Andrew Sorrell (Secretary of State) addressed the attendees.

Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey, who is a candidate for Alabama Attorney General related that she first ran for DA when she was 28, was sworn in at 29, and is now serving her third term in office. She said that she was not a full-time politician, but instead “I’m a career prosecutor.” Prior to being elected DA, she served as an Assistant Attorney General in Montgomery, in both the Criminal and Violent Crimes divisions. “God put me on this earth to protect our families and protect our children,” she said.

Casey then went on to describe her experience as a prosecutor, saying “I’m the only prosecutor in Alabama who’s handled a human trafficking case involving a four year old.” In that case, she sent both the trafficker (the mother) and the abuser to prison. “I’m the only one in the (AG) race that’s ever stood in front of a jury and asked them to put a man to death for beating a child to death,” she went on.

Casey concluded by emphasizing that “the people of Alabama want a prosecutor,” and when elected, “we’re going to fight for our families. We’re going to fight corruption. We’re going to secure our rights. We’re going to fight for secure elections. And, we’re going to back the blue.”

Current State Auditor and Secretary of State candidate Andrew Sorrell then spoke about his children—his youngest daughter is just eight weeks old—before addressing his conservative record. He proudly stated that his recent budget request for the Auditor's office was DECREASED from the previous year by 1%, and “that’s what fiscal conservatism is.”

Sorrell went on to say “I want to save you money, and I’m going to save you money as Secretary of State because we’re going to slash fees” for many business-related costs. He also stated that he thought that Veterans should receive a discount on business fees, to encourage them to start small businesses.

Sorrell also said that he would cut the fee to purchase Alabama voter rolls from $38,000 to ZERO, to increase transparency and make cleaning the rolls easier. “If we’re doing a good job of keeping the voter rolls clean, we don’t have anything to hide,” he said.

Sorrell also said that he wanted to expand the Alabama Voter Integrity Database (AVID) from the current ten States. He hopes to add another 20 States to the AVID program, which will increase election security in all of the participating States.

Finally, Sorrell stated that he was in favor of an election audit bill, but until the Legislature acted on that, he will add a five-person division of Election Integrity in the Secretary of State’s office, working full time to clean up the voter rolls.

ALPolitics.com was unfortunately delayed and did not arrive in time to hear current Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, and candidate for Lt. Governor, Rick Pate speak. Pate is always an entertaining speaker, and attendees at the meeting said that he spoke at some length first about Veterans Day, then how as Lt. Governor he would work to make the State more business-friendly.

Pate did provide ALPolitics.com a statement after the meeting, saying, “I am the only business candidate with years of real world experience. I understand the challenges business owners face. And Like Pres. Trump, if elected Lt Governor, I will apply my business experience in an effort to streamline regulations, strengthen our workforce, focus on tort reforms, and fight to ensure that government is not an impediment to the success of AL businesses. When AL business is unleashed, our economy benefits and in turn so do our citizens.”
