The Republican Women Of Trussville held their monthly meeting on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at the Trussville Civic Center in Trussville, Alabama.

Jennifer Leonard, with the Barry Moore for U.S. Senate campaign, spoke with the attendees about Moore’s campaign to succeed Tommy Tuberville in the Senate.

The featured speaker, State Representative Ernie Yarbrough (R-Trinity), spoke on the Alabama legislature, anticipated upcoming bills in the 2027 session and Flock cameras.

Yarbrough explained that the Oath of Office he swore is the foundation for everything he does as a legislator. In that oath, every elected official swears to uphold both the U.S. and the Alabama State Constitutions. Therefore, it is incumbent upon legislators to read and abide by them in their decision-making. But, Yarbrough said, it is apparent that many do not.

The 4th Amendment to the US Constitution, he noted, states: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

Article 1, Section 35, of the Alabama Constitution says: “That the sole object and only legitimate end of government is to protect the citizen in the enjoyment of life, liberty, and property, and when the government assumes other functions it is usurpation and oppression.”

These define boundaries which must be kept in mind when passing legislation. Being a legislator should mean passing laws that are just, Yarbrough emphasized, with a view of the impact of future generations.

Rep. Yarbrough was well-received and took time to answer questions from those in attendance.
